Green Barbarians–Ellen Sandbeck

A Buddha A Day–Ellen Sandbeck

Ellen Sandbeck

Ellen Sandbeck started Laverme’s Worms in 1989, and ever since she has been giving group vermicomposting presentations, answering questions, trouble-shooting, and even making the occasional housecall, in order to enable people to run their worm composting bins successfully.
Ms. Sandbeck has taught a wide variety of people, ranging from fifth graders to nonagenarians to inmates at a Federal Prison Camp, to successfully run their worm bins and transform smelly, gooey food waste into luscious, sweet-smelling organic fertilizer for their gardens.
Ms. Sandbeck is a Federal Contractor, official title “Worm Farm Specialist,” and works with officers and inmates at the Federal Prison Camp in Duluth, Minnesota, managing the 100 foot long worm bin she set up on site in 2000. The bin is processing approximately 4,000 pounds of food waste per month.

What does Laverme's Worms do?

For more than twenty years, Laverme’s worm bins have happily and efficiently composted food waste in classrooms, basements, garages, workshops, offices, and laundry rooms, and in closets and laundry tubs, as well as under sinks and beds. Laverme’s worms are discreet and quiet, and neighbors never complain.
We grow Red Wriggler earthworms (Eisenia fetida) for vermicomposting food waste, and set up vermicomposting bins and systems for households, schools, and institutions. Our standard bin sizes are the 27 gallon household size and the 150 gallon institutional size, but we have also designed custom bins ranging in size from 100 gallons to 100 feet long.

WHAT DO WE SELL?
Worms, vermicomposting bins, worm juice (the liquid fertilizer that is produced by our own bins), and “Laverme’s Handbook of Indoor Vermicomposting.”
